When we travelled down from Bundaberg to the Sunshine Coast we had to find somewhere to stay, and it was not a matter of having a choice of where to go – it was a matter of getting off the hill we were stuck on. And it was a matter of doing what ever it took to get off that hill – we had to rig up a direct fuel line to move off that steep hill, and cruise on down into Pomona Showgrounds for the week.
Actually we ended up staying there for 8 nights (payed for seven and then payed for the extra night) because David needed time to replace all of the fuel lines. We ended up with the most amazing Backyard view ever ::
Actually it was the view from our Front Door of our Motorhome!
Because we are 10 metres in length we can fit into smaller camp sites, yet cause we were longer than a caravan we were given a site near the Horse Race Track….we were hoping that a pony club, or horse show was going to be on but it was the wrong time of the year for it (Being school holidays most people were away!)
We loved our stay at the Showgrounds ~
Parked on the grass area gave us plenty of room to move around.
While we were there David was able to also attach our new awning. We had ordered the arms from Suncoast Caravan Repairs (who he loves working for!) before we drove down the Coast. So once he re-started work at the company he was able to pay for them and bring them back to the Showgrounds to attach them.
Because the awing is WAY longer in length compared to our old one it was a lot of tricky calculations on how to attach it due to the locations of the wheel arches, but he managed it in the end!
These Seats Gave Us Much Needed Shade ~
It was REALLY hot parked up with no trees to shade our Motorhome, so these old cinema seats were perfect for two boys to escape to during the day!
In the undercover area is a fridge that is provided for all campers ~
so that food can be kept cold, but it must be labelled and dated!
When ever we can we eat outside ~
even in warm weather. It means less mess in the Motorhome, and there is more room outside!!
Funny Enough We Use it Outside ~
Where it has now become our Table for cooking on, eating off and is really useful for those things that we do not want put on the ground.
Pomona Town ::
There was a few days where we had to walk into town (cause David had the Car) and we had a good look around. If we had more time on the Sunshine Coast, and it wasnt so hot we might have explored more of the walking trails!
The History of Pomona ~
This Furniture Company went under in the last floods, but but the look of the production (they were very busy in the factory!) that was underway its good to see they have recovered.
We love History ~
But we didn’t find the time to visit this Museum, maybe next time we drove through Pomona?
Have you heard about the “King of the Mountain” – it takes place every year on Pomona Mountain – so would love to see that!
Still can’t believe that anyone can climb up it, let alone run up it?
How Crazy does the King of the Mountain Run Sound?
At least its held in July where its a bit cooler in the year!
We enjoyed our short stay at the Showgrounds, even if we wanted to stay at the Sunshine Coast free camping but ended up with other plans – luckily we are very flexible with our travel plans!
Have You Stayed At Pomona Showgrounds?
What Was Your Experience?
Thanking you for following our Journey.
Cheers
Lisa
Hi Lisa, We have never had the need to stay at Pomona, however I have been there for the King of the Mountain race. It is unbelievable to me the number of people of all ages line up to race up and down the mountain, and the fact that the winner does it in under 25 minutes! It’s a great place to visit.
Glad you were able to get there safely and do all the fixing up necessary to restart your trip south.
Cheers
Jenny

I haven’t heard of Pomona before but I’d be interested to see it if we ever drive up that way.

I understand your reluctance to walk in the heat. It is extremely hot in Townsville at the moment. I am glad the boys had the shaded theatre chairs to get them out of the sun.
